Here’s a little bit about that Dark Time Sunshine poster.
I began by drawing the figures on real life paper. Once I sketched out a vague concept, I began the process that you see above. It’s mostly just tracing in Illustrator and trying to find a color scheme I could run with. Since I landed on a space theme, I began gathering a load of references for things I wanted to include: galaxies, eclipses, various comets, a litany of satellites, some ozone shots, whatever I could find.
So, now I have a load of goofy references, and a solid concept with the figures. It’s time to build, piece by piece. Below, you can see how everything moved and shifted and came together.
